Bazil Majors

Bazil Odair Majors, 85, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at his home in Lehi, Utah surrounded by loved ones.
Bazil was born on April 27, 1929 to Virgil Oscar Majors and Pearl Hannah (Lott) Majors in Huntington, Utah. In his youth Bazil was a renowned athlete, lettering in both track and basketball, and also graduating as the president of his high school class. After high school, Bazil learned the true value of labor by working full-time in the coal mines in Price, Utah.
In 1951, at the commencement of the war in Korea, Bazil enlisted in the United States military and served in Korea for 18 months among the 633rd US Army engineers light equipment company attached to the 3rd infantry division. Bazil returned home from the war after receiving three bronze stars and achieving the rank of a senior non-commissioned officer as Sergeant First Class (E7), and was honorably discharged thereafter.
After separation from the military, Bazil pursued an education and soon graduated from Utah State University and became a certified public accountant.
In 1952 Bazil married his first wife, Edith Escandon, with whom he fathered five healthy and beautiful daughters. Later, in 1982, Bazil married his eternal companion Sherry Lynn (Shaw) Majors with whom he had another daughter and a son.
Throughout his whole life, Bazil enjoyed and mastered numerous hobbies including equestrianism, alpine and water skiing, hunting, fishing, shooting, and reloading, all of which he was inclined to share with the people closest to him, mainly his children and grandchildren.
Bazil was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions including Finance Clerk, Sunday School President and High Priest Instructor.
Of all the accomplishments and notable events that highlighted the timeline of Bazil's life, the singular feat in which he found most of his triumph was in his daughters and son. Bazil saw it necessary to not only teach his children and grandchildren the joys and pleasures that accompanied an honorable life, but also the courage and resilience to confront the challenges and heartbreak that they would surely encounter in this world. Bazil taught his children the poetry and philosophies that strengthened him in his life and found an insurmountable amount of pride in seeing his children succeed on their own.
Bazil is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry Lynn Majors; his daughters Marcie (Robert) Hank, Camille (Gary) Stewart, Michelle (Gerald) Dikes, Debbie (Craig) Jorgensen, Mequette (Russell) Sorensen, and Mika (Kenton) McDaniel; his son Mitchell (Alicia) Majors; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and countless close friends.
He was a father, husband, leader, and friend, and he will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Anderson & Sons Mortuary Lone Peak Chapel, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland. Viewings will be on Thursday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the same location and Friday 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery.
