Angela Miriam Wright North - our angel mother, grandmother, sister, and friend - passed away quietly at home on December 23, in Highland, Utah, surrounded by family. She was 85 years old.
Born October 10, 1940, in Hornsey, Middlesex, England, Angela was the second of five children born to H. Scott and Miriam Wright. She was born at home during World War II amidst turbulent times. Her parents sought a better life and a better set of circumstances for their young family. At the age of 8, Angela and her family sailed across the Atlantic and began a new life in Toronto, Canada.
Life was not easy for Angela's young family, and she learned responsibility at an early age. These experiences quietly shaped her strong work ethic and her cheerful, willing spirit. After the tenth grade, she left school to help support her family, gaining practical skills that would remain with her throughout her life. She was never one to complain and often remembered her childhood with warmth, joy, and many fond memories.
Angela married Phillip Ross North at age 18. And by the age of 24, she had given birth to five children, raising four to adulthood. Much of her adult life was spent as a single mother-a role she carried with strength, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Angela was a lifelong learner who quickly gained new skills and brought a strong work ethic and cheerful spirit to everything she did. A fluent typist, she worked in many capacities throughout her life with this skill set. She spent more than 30 years as a footwear specialist, fitting children's and adult shoes, and later working in prosthetic fitting. She took pride in her work, and her professionalism and genuine care for people were evident to all she served.
Despite the challenges she faced, Angela lived with resilience, courage, and deep faith. In the fall of 2010, following an incidental finding, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Though encouraged to have it removed, she chose instead to continue living life fully, guided by her faith in God and her belief in making the most of each day. She continued to work full-time until she was 78!
Angela grew up with very little and remained easily pleased throughout her life. It did not take much to make her happy- a thank you, a hug, a compliment. She enjoyed getting out and about-whether to the movies, the beach, for a drive, or simply to spend time with family-she was never one to sit still. She found joy in simple pleasures and in caring for others.
Although Angela always remained a British subject, she was a proud Canadian citizen and later a permanent resident of the United States. She was deeply patriotic and maintained a lifelong love of history, country, and freedom.
Angela is survived by her four children: Kim (North) Remington, Ross and Erin (McCurdy) North, Kent and Shelly (Rich) North, and Kish and Michelle (Arriola) North, along with her amazing 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Raymond and Lloyd Wright, and her sister, Vivian Christianson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Miriam Wright; her son, George Willis North (stillborn); and her eldest sister, Myrna Wright Jensen.
Steady in her faith and her commitment to God, she shone her light to all whose lives she touched. Thank you for being our angel Mum/Yaya - we will now carry the torch! Always remembered, never forgotten!
