Amos Vernon Merrill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on June 16, 2026.
Amos was born on May 24, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Non and Bonnie Roberts Merrill. He was raised with strong values of faith, hard work, and service that would guide him throughout his life.
On September 16, 1977, Amos married the love of his life, Elsie, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on December 21, 1985, sealing their family together for eternity. Together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service.
Amos found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He loved camping trips, hunting, 4 wheeling, fishing, and target shooting, creating countless cherished memories with those he loved most. He was a devoted father to his sons, who loved and respected him deeply. They could always count on him to join them in the activities they enjoyed, whether it was a hunting trip, a day of fishing, or time spent in the outdoors. From hunting and fishing to camping and target shooting, the memories they created together will be treasured forever.
Known for his generous heart, Amos never hesitated to help someone in need. He quietly and willingly served others throughout his life, always ready to lend a hand. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served diligently in many callings. Amos had a strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and relied upon His Atonement daily. His faith was a guiding light that influenced all who knew him.
After the passing of his beloved wife, Elsie, Amos experienced the deep sorrow that comes from losing an eternal companion. In time, he found comfort and companionship with Connie, who was also grieving the loss of her spouse. Through their shared faith, understanding, and friendship, they fell in love. Amos and Connie were married on April 20, 2018, and were married for time in the Bountiful Temple. Their relationship brought renewed happiness, companionship, and many treasured memories during the later years of his life.
Amos was preceded in death by his parents, Non and Bonnie Merrill; his beloved wife, Elsie Merrill; his wife and companion, Connie Johnson Merrill; his sons, Amos Jr. and Jacob Vernon Merrill; and his grandchildren, Katie and Joshua.
He is survived by his son, Josh (Alex) Merrill; his grandchildren, Daniella (Felipe) Ocampo, Gabi, Mia, Tucker, Isaiah (Airiann) Merrill, and Harlee Jensen; and his great-grandchildren, Wrenley and A.J. Merrill, the children of Isaiah and Airiann Merrill. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Symbii home health and hospice teams who lovingly cared for Amos during the last several months of his life. Their compassion, kindness, and attentive care brought comfort not only to Amos but also to his family during a difficult time. The family is deeply thankful for the support, dignity, and respect they showed him each day.
Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Amos has been reunited with his loved ones and has returned to his heavenly home. His legacy of faith, service, love, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
