Thelma Overly

Thelma Lucile Conrad Overly passed away May 18, 2014 in Alpine, Utah. She was born December 14, 1915, in Sunnyside, Utah. When she was a small child, her family moved to Alberta, Canada.
She spent her formative years in Taber, a small town near Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. After high school graduation, she moved to Provo, Utah where she received her beautician's license. She became a "beauty operator" in a small beauty shop on University Avenue and 5th North. She met Don Overly and they were married in 1938 in Bow River, Alberta, Canada. They were sealed in the Manti temple in 1963. In 1941 they moved to American Fork, Utah where Don was employed by the Alpine School District as a teacher and coach.
They lived and raised their children in American Fork, except for a short period when Don was serving in the Armed Forces during WWII. Thelma was active in the LDS church and held multiple callings, including serving in a Relief Society Presidency. She also served as a hospital volunteer in the Pink Lady Association for 30 years. She was employed for a period of time as a clerk at Priday's Office Supply and made many friends there.
She loved doing handiwork (crocheting, knitting, sewing, and quilting), gardening and reading. She was a member of several literary clubs, serving three times as President. Thelma's main role was that of wife and mother, keeping everything running smoothly as Don was very involved in school and community activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Don C. Overly; her parents, Warren and Emma Conrad; her siblings: Harry and Charles Conrad and Julia Conrad Bullock. She is survived by her three children: Don C. (Aliene) Overly, Cedar City, Utah; Susan (Lyle) Van Orden, New Harmony, Utah; Kent (Connie) Overly, Draper, Utah. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North in American Fork on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. A viewing will be held from 8:45-9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
