Kenneth Ronald Cox (Ron)

Kenneth Ronald Cox (Ron)

Kenneth Ronald Cox (Ron) of Las Vegas, NV returned to his Heavenly Father August 18, 2010 after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He was born in Provo, Utah on July 18, 1952. He was the first born of Kenneth Norman (Norm) and Ruby Gurr Duke Cox. He was the oldest of nine children, 6 sisters and 2 brothers.

Ron attended Orem City schools and graduated from Orem High School in 1970. When in high school he was honored as an all-state football player and wrestler. He later attended and played football at Snow College. He married his sweetheart, LaDean Mecham June 21, 1974. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple on June 29, 1984. Throughout their marriage, Ron and LaDean lived in many different places throughout the western United States and eventually settled in Las Vegas, NV. Ron worked as a power lineman for over 30 years and especially loved his most recent job working as an Electrical Inspector for Nevada Power. Ron and LaDean have 4 children: Kimberly Wenger (Stewart) of Frisco, Texas; Ronnie Cox (Adina) of Las Vegas, Nevada; David Cox (Rebekah) currently serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii; and Alissa Cox of Las Vegas, Nevada. He has four grandchildren: Thomas, Justin and Brenna Wenger; and Austin Cox. Ron was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many church callings throughout his lifetime. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. One of his great joys was spending time with his family in the mountains on his snowmobile. He loved and cherished each of his grandchildren and they brought much joy into his life. Anyone who has met Ron is a better person because they knew him. His gentle personality touched everyone he came in contact with. He was a kind nonjudgmental person who showed unconditional love to everyone. He will be greatly missed and we look forward to being together with him again someday.

Ron is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and father, Norm Cox; siblings, Lynette Nelsen (Gary); Cindy Sorensen (Steve); Cassie Every (Steve); Lisa Safely (Brent); Dana Cox (Gina); Jessie Peel (Richard); Jason Cox (Cindy); Stacy Cox; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Cox, and both of his in-laws, Mary and John Mecham.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday August 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Cedar City Westview LDS Chapel, 2830 West Cody Dr. Cedar City, UT. A Visitation will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Cedar City, UT Cemetery.

Ron was always a great guy. I remember him while growing up together in the 13th Ward. Becky and I are sorry for your loss. RIP Ron.

Dear Ken, Ladean and family,

My heart goes out to you as Ron's family whom he loves very much. I offer my sincere sympathy for your loss of Ron. I knew Ron from playing football and wrestling with him at Orem High. I will never forget his long run right through the middle of the Provo defense up the gut knocking over guys as he went. State in '68. He was fearless. He loved to lower his shoulder and bowl over the opponent. I remember Ron's laugh; he was almost as funny as what he was laughing at. He was always kind to us littler guys and stood up for what was right. I lived next door to your cousins Marsh, Thell, Tom and Malin, etc. I don't know where any of them live now. If they come to the funeral tell them "Hi" for me. I never knew anybody who worked harder than your families.

May the peace and love of our Heavenly Father fill your hearts with comfort and hope in the resurrection.

with love and respect,

Grant Hansen
