What is pre-arranging? How does it benefit? What do you need to do to get started? Have you ever asked any of these questions? I will answer these questions, but if you find yourself with more questions that you would like answered, Daniel Timothy (801-424-3030), our Family Service Agent, will be able to help.
Pre-arranging, sometimes called pre-need, is when you decide on the type of service, the casket, vault, programs, marker, etc that you will need for your funeral. This is not exactly what everyone wants to think about, but once everything is planned and your spouse, children or responsible person knows what your wishes are, you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
I already mentioned one of the benefits. It is hard when you are grieving to make decisions, especially if you are trying to guess what your loved one would have liked. Having the choice already made take the burden of choice from your loved ones. You are making the choices when you are thinking clearly and not emotionally overspending. It also is a relief to know that it is already paid for and not have to search for funds.
Another benefit is when you set aside funds for the cost of the funeral today, it is placed in a funeral annuity that will continue to grow. Then, when the time comes years down the road, it has grown to keep up with the current cost of the funeral. In other words, it is an investment. For example, let’s say you choose a higher end casket and a full traditional service. With the pre-need plan, it will grow and be able to cover the current cost. If you just set aside the money in a bank account, it probably would not cover the cheapest casket on the floor. Another advantage to this investment is that it can be assigned irrevocably to the mortuary, and if there are medical costs in your final years, it will not be used to pay these bills before Medicaid will help.
Getting started is a matter of how much you want to do. If you would like to sit down and do it all at once, you can call Daniel and make an appointment. He can come to you house, or he can meet you at the mortuary. You can fill out a planning guide regarding information you will need in your records to complete needed paperwork at the time of your passing and information about what you would like at your service--speakers, and musical selections. See “The Talk of a Lifetime” video on our website to help with ideas for your services.
Now you are more prepared to make some decisions. The type of service can be selected. Any additional items you need or want can be selected and a contract can be written out. There are payment plans to pay overtime, or it can be purchased all at once. This can be discussed and the best way for your needs can be set up. If you would prefer to do a few things at a time this can be arranged. You can call Daniel or just come into the mortuary. If you have more questions please call us at 801-756-3564 or you can call Daniel directly at 801-424-3030.
I hope this helps.
